Der Rote Bildpunkt originated as a single red pixel, the smallest visual building block of our digital landscape. The title, Bildpunkt (or “image-point” if translated literally), is the earliest known term for a pixel, reflecting the pixel at the point of genesis. Here, the artist loaded the red pixel’s data as sound and extrapolated its sound to create echoes and waves, shaping the ripple effect visible in the pixel’s final form. The resulting image reveals the pixel’s humble point of origin and the remnants of the processes through which it was manipulated.
