This portrait originated as photographic data that was then manipulated in Audacity to visually resemble a recording of the subject singing. The image witnesses the uncanny experience of hearing oneself on a recording and finding that one’s inner voice is out of sync with its representation in the outside world. The subject’s self-image then becomes confused in an audio-visual feedback loop between herself and her reflection in the machine.
